Whole-Body Hyperthermia Therapy

What is Hyperthermia therapy?

Hyperthermia therapy is a new type of cancer treatment. It uses heat to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors, with minimal injury to normal cells while only treating the tumor itself.

Hyperthermia therapy can also make other cancer treatments more effective. These include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immune checkpoint blockade therapy, and adoptive cellular immunotherapy.

If cancer metastasizes (spreads) through your entire body, you may need whole-body hyperthermia. Some people receive fever-range, whole-body hyperthermia. This is a short, controlled fever that can trigger your immune system to fight cancer cells.

Here in In Kao-Ho hospital, we provide whole-body hyperthermia via Infrared Whole-Body Hyperthermia Device. It is composed of four water-filtered infrared emitters and a tent-like structure. It effectively raises core body temperature up to 42°C safely, without injury to skin tissue.

Who should not undergo hyperthermia therapy?

Much sweating with increased heart rate develop during and after the whole-body hyperthermia therapy, so there are some conditions contraindicated to infra-red hyperthermia therapy:

  • Infection
  • Malnutrition or dehydration
  • Poor cardiopulmonary function
  • On Pacemaker or other metal implants
  • Pregnancy
